Good news was once again received by the University of Muhammadiyah Malang (UMM). On this occasion, UMM's Lembaga Pelatihan Kerja (LPK) managed to get an accreditation that is equivalent to A released by the Kementerian Ketenagakerjaan (Kemnaker). The accreditation letter was released at the end of last year and was given directly by the Manpower and Transmigration Department to the Chief of the UMM Alumni Division, Rahmawati Khadijah Maro, S.Pd., M.P.Ed.

The accreditation is legal proof that the LPK is authorized to conduct training on campus. Rahma, her nickname, said that the LPK accreditation process started a few months ago. Some aspects include vision and mission, human resources, training governance, and so on.

"We are very grateful for the accreditation achieved by this LPK. Especially since the unavailability due to COVID-19, we have been unable to conduct workshops for alumni or students as before," said the lecturer of the English Study Program.

Uniquely, LPK UMM managed to get an award for passing accreditation without any revisions. Moreover, LPK UMM is also one of the training institutions that is fully funded by the manpower department to conduct accreditation.

In addition, LPK was established in 2018. This institution aims to develop the skills of students and society in general. Since it has received legality from the government, LPK has several types of training programs that can be attended by the general public, such as management, entrepreneurship, financial management, marketing, public relations, Islamic banking, and so on. However, due to COVID-19, the training must be stopped first.

LPK has recently added a new course on making bread. To organize the training program, LPK collaborates with Dunia Kerja Dunia Industri (DUDI), such as Rayz Hotel Malang, Kapal Garden Hotel Malang, and My Dormy Hostel. "The training will be held on March 8–9, 2024. There are several materials provided, such as theory and direct practice from practitioners. Therefore, the participants will not get confused. The agenda is open to the public, so students or the public can participate," she said.

Participants will also receive training in financial management, promotion, practice, distribution, and storage. Rahma said that the target participants in this training are 40 people.

The advantages of the training held by LPK UMM are not only in terms of the skills provided but also the existence of certificates, being taught directly by experts in their fields, the facilities to borrow tools after the training takes place, and the ability to exchange ideas with other members.

"If the participants want to open a business but do not have the equipment needed after the training, they can borrow the equipment that we provide at LPK UMM. Furthermore, the training alumni are also given the access to have discussions with us to ensure that their skills are not easily diminished," she added. (tri/wil/put)
