University of Muhammadiyah Malang (UMM) again proved its quality. Previously, a series of study programs had received excellent accreditation. This time it was the turn of the Mathematics Education Department that achieve it. The title issued by the National Accreditation Board for Higher Education (BAN-PT) has been in effect since the end of last April.
Head of the UMM Mathematics Education Study Program, Adi Slamet Kusumawardana, S.Si., M.Si said that the process of achieving Superior accreditation had been prepared since 2018. At that time, his party managed to get an A accreditation. Then maintain and prepare for the following accreditation process through revitalizing the curriculum for students. That way, the UMM Mathematics Department can produce professional educators and complete their studies on time.
“Our department curriculum encourages students to complete seven semesters. Then it is also supported by study programs that accelerate it. Both in academics and non-academics, such as the Scientific Work Equivalent Thesis (KISS) program,” explained Adi.
Adi explained that this KISS program allows students to start working on scientific papers in semester 3. It is hoped that they will be able to publish articles in semester seven that are then converted into thesis scores.
“This program has been in effect since 2018 until today. Alhamdulillah, more than 50 students have passed this route and in only seven semesters, said Adi.
Adi said that in the accreditation proposal process, there were several problems faced. One of them is that several lecturers are still waiting for a functional position decree. In contrast, human resources become one of the essential assessments in accreditation. It also resulted in the postponement of the application for certification.
In line with the achievement of the Superior Accreditation achieved by the Mathematics Education Study Program, Adi hopes that the academic community will be more enthusiastic about providing better services and work. He also encourages the Mathematics Department to be more confident and motivated to achieve international accreditation.
Likewise, students and alumni are encouraged to participate at a higher level, especially with the provisions that they have provided. “Of course, we want the White Campus Mathematics study program graduates to become competent human resources. I also want our study program to be increasingly known as a superior, quality study program and become a destination for prospective students to continue their studies. Especially with the big plan for international accreditation announced,” Adi concluded. (cdr/zak/wil)
