Rumah Baca Cerdas (RBC) Institute of the University of Muhammadiyah Malang (UMM) again held a national discussion. The agenda was carried out to read and answer the challenges of Indonesia in the present and the future. The agenda was held on Wednesday (25/5) by presenting a series of speakers.
Starting the material, Dr. Nazaruddin Malik, M.Sc., said that now Indonesia is experiencing complicated and complex problems. Not only dwelling on the economy but also education, social, health, and others. Moreover, the nation's noble values are increasingly fading in the industrial era 4.0.
According to him, one of the main shortcomings in this era is the loss of awareness of values. Then, there is an inadequate mentality, and humanity's side is getting thinner. In addition to providing positive things, the Industrial Revolution provides not only rapid progress but also significant inequality.
"We can see this from the declining per capita income and the development that seems not so evenly distributed," added the Vice Rector II of UMM White Campus.

Furthermore, Nazar said that concrete steps were needed to answer these main problems. The first thing that should be done is to build competent and competitive human resources (HR), accompanied by cultivating religious values and spirit.
The highest level of human resource development ideals is straight character building. Then it must also be in line with the objectives of Muhammadiyah as an enlightening organization. According to Nazar, building a superior human resource can be done through character education.
"So I think character education is very crucial. This is one of the great tasks of Muhammadiyah in the context of realizing a progressive civilization. Both in the current era and in the future," concluded Nazar.

In the national discussion, other presenters, such as Dr. Nur Subeki, M.T. He, said that to realize Muhammadiyah's national roles, training them to continue collaborating was necessary. Thus, Muhammadiyah is expected to be able to produce cadres who can read the changing times.
"This is a long-term job. There must be collaboration from many parties," he said.
There is also Pradana Boy ZTF. MA. P.hD. considered that Muhammadiyah had a challenging task. One of them is to direct the moderation of thinking of the ruling elite and grassroots society.
"So we need to think religiously with humanity. Of course, moderate thinking is important to maintain social and community integrity," (cdr/*/wil)
