The acts of terror in Makassar and the National Police Headquarters last month added to a long line of acts of terrorism in Indonesia. During the last two decades, there have been at least 45 acts of terror. Actions of terror seem to be annual acts because there are at least two to four cases of terror that occur each year. Seeing this, UMM Smart Reading House (RBC) held a study discussing the importance of peace education. The schedule, which is part of the Ideas Room platform, was held on Monday (3/5).
One of the causes of religious violence and terror is extremism, which is deeply rooted in vulnerable societies. Luluk Farida said in a discussion in the Idea Room: The object for calling for extremism is a recitation forum. The target is that people who have not been completed are generally still weak in religion. They are taught to jihad by using pieces of religious verses or texts that contain hatred.

Based on data distributed by BNPT, said Farida, the most targeted by extremism are women, with a percentage of 12.3%. In the past, women were behind the scenes. Now, women can become actors behind acts of terror. For example, Zakiah Aini, the sole actor behind the attack on the Police Headquarters using an air rifle.
In addition, a member of the Indonesian Journalists Alliance, Eko Widianto, said that the media also took part in creating acts of terror. After the ideology of extremism has taken root, all information related to acts of terror in the media, both printed and electronic, also helps terrorists carry out their actions.
"How to assemble a bomb, how to avoid police ambush, or how to carry out acts of terror are easily obtained through the mass media," said Eko.

According to him, with all the easy access to these acts of terror, the teachings and suggestions regarding peace should be sown. The key to reducing extremism is to promote peaceful education. Literacy and awareness of diversity must campaign.
Likewise, Program Director of RBC Institute A. Malik Fadjar, Nafik Muthohirin, said that the portion of religious education that is inclusive and teaches pluralism must be added to the curriculum. That is because young people are also very vulnerable to being exposed to extremism.
Nafik continued, efforts to prevent extreme understanding were not only presented in theory but also exemplified by advocates and teachers. Dialogue between religions should also be re-established. So, through this dialogue, learning spaces can be created between one another. (*/wil)
