Rector: The Almamater of UMM is Your Second Mother

The rector of UMM, Prof. Dr. Muhadjir Effendy, M.AP was giving the briefing to the graduate candidates at Dome of UMM.

The rector of University of Muhammadyah Malang, Prof. Dr. Muhadjir Effendy, MAP, encouraged the graduates to be more confident. It is due to the reputation of UMM which is one of among the best university and it can be proud of. For some achievements, UMM is on a par with another reputable university in Indonesia.

“One of the examples is in research field. UMM is in Mandiri cluster which is equal to another 14 reputable universities and UMM is the only private university,” as he stated while giving opening speech and motivation to 1586 graduate candidates at Dome of UMM, Friday (16/10).

The rector believes that life after graduating from UMM will become more challenging but he is optimistic that the graduates will manage it. This is due to the process which had been through may make the UMM graduates possess more than the graduates of another university. The graduates are expected to vivify the community either when becoming professionals or doing entrepreneur.

“I believe in the entrepreneur culture which had been built in this university will enrich the skills and the characters of yours after becoming UMM graduates,” he said as he related that many business units of UMM as one of elements in building entrepreneurship character.

The rector also reminded the graduates to keep the communication with the university and guard the honor of almamater. “The almamater of UMM is your second mother. So respect it, guard its honor, and prove that you can be successful as UMM graduates. Don’t you dare to hurt your mother, that also means don’t you ever hurt UMM as well” as advised by the Rector.

The tomorrow graduation ceremony will start from 7 am as the graduates and their family can enter the Dome of UMM. It is possible that there will be graduation ceremony held by another university, so the graduates are expected to anticipate the traffic jam in Malang city and its sorrounding.

The scientific oration of graduation ceremony will be delivered by the Chief of Muhammadyah, Dr. Haedar Nashir, M.Si. This event will also be attended by the Head of UMM Administrative Board, Prof. Dr. HA Malik Fadjar, M.Sc and the board members of Majelis Pendidikan Tinggi and Litbang PP Muhammadyah. (nas/t_rfd)
