Always contributing to society by spreading benefits is the identity of the University of Muhammadiyah Malang. Recently, the White Campus did its program entitled "UMM Berbagi untuk Negeri (Trans.: UMM Contributes to the Nation)" by providing attractive reading through Mobil Kamis Membaca (KaCa) (Trans.: Car Thursday Reading) at Class II A of the Women's Correctional Facility of Malang. The provided books, such as cooking recipes, novels, biography, and self-development books, vary. Many residents feel interested in them and borrow the books for the next week.

The agenda held on April 6, 2023, was attended by the Rector of UMM, Dr. Fauzan, M.Pd., who shared his inspirative story before iftar. Fauzan illustrates that life is like a mirage. From afar, abundant water is visible, but when approaching it, it does not exist. Then, life management is necessary to master.

"There are two things considered in doing something: desire and sense. Desire always leads to wishing, which ends in pleasure. Meanwhile, sense is always with goodness," said he.

Additionally, he also likens life is like a caterpillar that must pass the cocoon phase before it becomes a butterfly. The statement is like a human's journey. Those who commit bad things will be eliminated like a caterpillar. Hence, Ramadan is the moment for Muslims to enhance their self-capacity and self-quality.

"Ramadan fasting is like a cocoon, where there is the obligation to refrain. There is a caterpillar failing to be a butterfly, but more manage to be so. Like mankind, if they successfully utilize the moment of Ramadan, they will be more pious and better," added the Rector from Kediri.

Lastly, Fauzan also encouraged the residents of the Correctional Facility to do self-introspection by figuring out self-errors and correcting them so that they can be purely from mistakes at the end of Ramadan. He also said that happiness is inside the heart of grateful humans.

On the other hand, the Head of the Class II A of the Women's Correctional Facility of Malang, Lilik Sulistiyowati, M.Hum, appreciated this community service of UMM. Previously, UMM has conducted many programs at this correctional facility: writing training, band video-clip making for the residents, cow sacrificing for Eid al-Adha, etc.

"Hopefully, those sets of agendas can improve the residents' knowledge and skills so that they can be beneficial for their family, nation, and, naturally, religion. We expect this good collaboration between UMM and the Women's Correctional Facility to run continuously and be synergized," ended Lilik.

Furthermore, Eva, one of the correctional facility residents, shared a similar thing. In her view, the books provided by the Mobil KaCa of UMM are attractive: cooking recipes, novels, biography, and self-development books. She says her friends and I are awaiting the Car Thursday Reading of UMM.

"Donations of women's clothing given are also useful, so is sharing session by the Rector. Hopefully, what is done by UMM gives more kindness. Not only for us, but also wider society," ended Eva. (imh/wil)
