UMM Rector: Parents Should Be Familiar with UMM

GIVING ANSWERS: The Rector of University of Muhammadiyah Malang, Prof Dr Muhadjir Effendy MAP answers the questions asked by the students' parents in dialog session of the gathering event of UMM Executive Board and parents in UMM Dome, Sunday (6/9).

“SINCE the beginning, we have been being determined to assure that the parents know where their children attend to study at,” said the rector of University of Muhammadiyah Malang (UMM) Prof. Dr. Muhadjir Effendy MAP in front of thousands parents and guardians of the second and third period freshmen of academic year 2015/2016, Sunday (6/9) in UMM Dome. In this gathering event of UMM Executive Board and parents, the rector also persuaded the parents to watch their children’s development during their time in university. “Starting from their boarding houses up to their social lives, students have to be monitored by parents in order to prevent them from bad influence,” he said.

Before the briefing began, the Vice Rector II Fauzan, M.Pd introduced the UMM Executive Board, several faculties, business units and the plan of campus development to the parents. “We hold this gathering to create good cooperation between UMM Executive Board and the parents,” he said.

After the briefing, the rector provided chances for parents to engage in direct dialog with him. Several questions were proposed to him related to the facilities and scholarships provided by UMM for the students.

In the same time, the head of Students Bureau, Drs Abdullah Masmuh, M.Si announce the scholarships of IDR 500.000 per month for three months, counted from September 201,5 given to the ten students from each faculties in UMM who have the highest score in the second period of admission test. The scholarships were symbolically handed by the Vice Rector III, Dr. Diah Karmiyati, Psi to the students accompanied by their parents.

Officially, UMM has accepted 6.854 freshmen out of 17.936 applicants. Stringent selection process was conducted to trawl for quality students. “This year, UMM breaks the record of the most total of numbers in history. This proves us that society increasingly believe in the education quality of this White Campus,” ended the rector. (zul/han/t_far)
