New youths are now officially holding the mandate to become functionaries at the University of Muhammadiyah Malang (UMM). They were successfully inaugurated as administrators of the Badan Eksekutif Mahasiswa (BEM) (trans: student executive council), student senate, and student activity units. The UMM Rector, Prof. Dr. Fauzan, M.Pd., inaugurated them directly last September 7.
The newly inaugurated student president of the White Campus, Yogi Syahputra Alaydrus, said many programs were prepared to create spaces for collaboration, education, intellectuals, movements, and others. According to him, being a university student is a means to hone soft and hard skills so they can live life after completing their studies.

He also briefly discussed the removal of the thesis as a graduation requirement. He considered that students' abilities can be maximized by their passions. Those who struggle to win national and international championships also get an easy way with this new policy. Moreover, UMM has been doing this for a long time through the equivalency program.
"We will also focus on developing humanism students. I believe UMM students have their own intelligence and it is extraordinary, it is just a matter of how we nurture it. We will also focus on international programs so that they can be aligned with the goals of UMM which has received various international recognitions," said Yogi.

Meanwhile, Prof. Dr. H. Fauzan, M.Pd, as the UMM Chancellor, appreciated the complex and intelligent work of the previous student functionaries. According to him, the dedication and innovation provided made the campus proud. He hopes the same thing can continue by the next period, especially for running international programs.
"I do know and believe that UMM students have high intelligence and potential to compete in the international arena. Thus, the campus has provided a forum to achieve this, such as university-level institutions. All existing programs will certainly lead to improving personal quality," he said.
Finally, he advised BEM, the Senate, and other student organizations to create an impact that has broad resonance. Not just satisfied at the national level but also internationally. Likewise, with the improvement of creative skills, education, and able to provide critical thinking to create solutions to existing problems. (Put/Ri/Wil)
