Faculty of Engineering University of Muhammadiyah Malang (UMM) presented General Directorate of Construction the Ministry of Public Working and Housing and Distance Learning in Construction at BAU Hall on Tuesday (16/1). This event was held as a follow up of competency certification alumni program initiated by UMM through Profession Certification Institution (LSP) and was attended by the students of Civil Engineering. There was an explanation about Independent Intensive Learning System (SIBIMA Construction) which is an independent distance learning to introduce construction standard according to the Standard Competence of Indonesia National Work (SKKNI)
Vice Rector I UMM, Syamsul Arifin stated that it is a way of UMM to equip the alumni. He said, “UMM alumni do not only have diploma certificate and transcript of grades but also competency certificate as a proof that they are very competent”.
Furthermore, UMM updates curriculum which is balanced and synchronized with SKKNI standard. It is expected that UMM graduates can find appropriate job quickly and precisely. Syamsul said, “Currently, UMM is doing curriculum reform to support the quality competence improvement of graduates”. Later on, this certification can be a Certificate Accompanying Diploma (SKPI). By this, it is expected that UMM students will have it after graduate.
The representative of the Association of Construction Technology Application, Cakra Nagara conveyed that the law demands university graduates have a competence certification. That is why, UMM has done the right thing regarding to this. He said, “When you graduate, you must have SKPI”. (UMM public relations/lus)
