The success of University of Muhammadiyah Malang (UMM) about developing cluster of organic plants in some areas is attracting foreign students. Along a week, from 28 September to 5 October, 48 students from Turkey, China, Myanmar and Thailand will learn organic farming from UMM agricultural professor, Prof Dr Ir Indah Prihartini MP.
This learning is conceptualized in Design Thinking (DT) Camp program organized by International Relations Office (IRO) of UMM in cooperation with Ministry of Research and Technology Higher Education (Kemristekdikti) of Indonesia Republic. Not only the materials in the class, participants are also invited to observe directly the management of organic farming in the village of Kampung Wisata Tani (KWT) in Temas Village, Batu City.
"The result of studying theory and direct observation is applied in the form of prototype which will be discussed in each group," explained Aditya Pratama Putra, one of DT Camp coordinator when interviewed after the program opening, Monday (28/8).
In addition to learning organic crops, participants will also be introduced to Indonesian culture, for examples, learning Dance Mask Malangan, a traditional Javanese game, and making one of Indonesia typical food. Interestingly, the participants are also invited to experience cultural atmosphere of Indonesia by attending a local wedding reception in Kediri, East Java. They are also required to wear the traditional dress of each country. (ard)
