Malang Film Festival (MAFI Fest) from the Kine cinematography study group at the University of Muhammadiyah Malang (UMM) will be back with a different nuance, next April.
This event to showcase the creativity of young Indonesian filmmakers began with a roadshow to several regions. It begins on March 14, 2020, in the village of Tawangsari, Pujon sub-district, Malang Regency.
The choice of the Tawangsari village as the location of the roadshow, according to the non-competition MAFI Fest 2020 Programmer, Tautin said that it wanted to provide a new entertainment for people who have remote access to conventional cinemas.
Different from the previous year, this roadshow is targeting the audience from the village to get to know what MAFI Fest is. Related to the screening of the film, the majority of the audience came were children.
They were very enthusiastic even though before the roadshow it was rained. Nur Intan, one of the audience who came said that she was very happy with this roadshow. He hopes events like this continue to be held in his village.

The weather after the rain did not reduce the enthusiasm of the villagers of Tawangsari. Evidently, the audience seats were filled with children, people from other villages came and watched while sitting on their motorbikes.
The films that were screened during the roadshow were 4 films with the titles: "WW Kodrat", "Tuh Kan, Nek", "Siti Madosi Gusti", and "Jilbabku Mundur".
As the village head, Anwar said that the Roadshow program did not just come and then watch a movie, but children who came indirectly learned from the film being shown.
Anwar expressed his hopes regarding the MAFI Fest 2020 so as not to forget Indonesia's own culture. And these expectations are in line with the MAFI Fest concept that will be held this year.
Since it was first held in 2004, MAFI Fest has undergone several changes. However, from 2013 to 2020, the MAFI Fest competition program was consistent in competing for short films by students and students who were members of schools, colleges, and community-based students.
In the 16th implementation in the upcoming April 2020, the organizer hopes that the films included in the MAFI Fest 2020 competition program can describe the development and growth of short films for students in Indonesia.
"We hope that all forms of story exploration and image execution will emerge from the work of students this year. So that it can be a stimulus and reference for festival-goers to be able to develop their work better, "explained Director of Mafi Fest, Puspa Wangi Pertiwi. (apg)
