RPL is a crucial program to enhance the quality and relevance of higher education in Indonesia. The program seeks to recognize students' prior learning through academic and non-academic experiences. This includes courses, training, work experience, or other relevant activities related to their respective study programs.
"Thus, prospective students can apply for recognition of their prior formal and informal learning to earn academic credits. This accelerates their study completion and saves time and costs," said Program Coordinator Dr. Sugiarti, M.Si.
FKIP UMM was designated as one of the 60 universities receiving the RPL grant and will officially implement the RPL Program in the first semester of 2024/2025 for six programs. These include Indonesian Language Education, English Language Education, Mathematics Education, Biology Education, Pancasila and Citizenship Education (PPKn), and Primary School Teacher Education (PGSD).
The Vice Dean I of FKIP UMM expressed gratitude for this grant, seeing it as recognition of FKIP UMM's efforts to enhance educational quality. Particularly, it expands opportunities for the community to pursue higher education and earn undergraduate degrees. Earlier, both the Vice Dean and Fida Pangesti, M.A., participated in technical guidance related to the grant.
"This technical guidance was a valuable opportunity for FKIP UMM to learn from other universities that have also received the RPL grant. It broadened our insights and deepened our understanding of RPL implementation. We gained inspiration on optimizing the RPL program from reviewers' feedback and best practices at other universities," she explained.

Apart from benefiting prospective and current students, receiving this grant also opens opportunities for FKIP UMM to develop more flexible and adaptive curricula to meet contemporary needs. Consequently, graduates from FKIP UMM will be more competitive in both national and international job markets. Curricula aligned with industry needs and technological advancements will better prepare students to face challenges in the workforce.
"With renewed spirit and support from this grant, FKIP UMM is optimistic about making significant contributions in nurturing a competitive and excellent next generation of the nation," she concluded. (*wil/fajr)
