The youth plays a vital role in finding ideas and solutions to societal problems. Therefore, the Badan Eksekutif Mahasiswa (BEM) (trans: Student Executive Board) of Fakultas Pertanian dan Peternakan (FPP) (trans: the Faculty of Agriculture and Animal Husbandry) at the University of Muhammadiyah Malang held the Final Scientific Idea Competition (SINATION) 2023 this May as a platform for innovation development. This national competition was attended by 198 teams from various regions throughout Indonesia and divided into two categories, college students and high school students.
SINATION is considered as a step to optimize the potential of the youth in exploring themselves. Especially in the agro complex sector as a contribution to realizing sustainable development goals (SDGs) in 2023.

This was also expected by the Dean of FPP UMM, Dr. Ir. Aris Winaya, M.M. M.Si. According to him, the competition can encourage the development of various big ideas from Indonesian youths. "Realizing the SDGs is indeed one of the reasons we conduct this event. Through this event, we want the youth, students, to actively contribute to creating brilliant ideas that can be implemented," he said.
One interesting idea came from Trunojoyo University Madura's (UTM) representatives. They made an innovation of fleur de sel (salt flower) formulation and vitamin B complex of lorjuk as an intramuscular immunostimulant. The formulation attempts to prevent the spread of nail and mouth disease and LSD for cows in Madura. This innovation won first place in the college students category.
The UTM team leader Ika Masruroh was grateful for her team's victory in this competition. She admitted that she was very encouraged to overcome and win the match with other participants from well-known campuses. "We try to remain optimistic until the final round. The key is to represent what we have learned without hesitation," she added.

Meanwhile, in the student category, a team from SMAN 1 Lamongan won first place. Muhammad Kevin, the team leader, was very grateful because this was the team's first competition. "The competition is very tough, and the judges are also qualified so it makes us motivated to be able to give our best. Alhamdulillah, we won the first place," he said.
Great expectations also came from the chief executive of SINATION, Dyas. According to her, the youth should dare to do many things with their creativity. Many unique innovations will emerge that can solve problems in society. "Don't easily get stuck in your comfort zone. If we are trapped, I am sure we will not want to try to find interesting things in life," she concluded. (put/rul/wil)
