University of Muhammadiyah Malang (UMM) again inaugurated a new business unit. Attended by the Secretary General of the Ministry of Public Works and Public Housing (PUPR) RI Ir. Mohammad Zainal Fatah, White Campus held a soft launching of UMM's New Book Store (NBS) on Monday (20/6). The bookstore is next to Rayz Hotel UMM on Jalan Tlogomas Number 50, Malang.
Interestingly, NBS not only provides books from major publishers but also offers indie books that are rarely found in other stores. There is also a coffee shop which can later be used as a favorite place to read for visitors. Even with a podcast corner that anyone can use to develop their potential.
Zainal, his nickname, said he remembered his days as a student when he came and inaugurated the NBS. He remembers how books became his friend at every turn. At that time, the books he bought were not new but used books sold in the market.
"I can't be called a geek, but I can be sure that I carry books everywhere. In addition, if we look, the campus certainly has a library. But it seems that most students prefer to buy books directly at bookstores," he added.
According to Zainal, the presence of NBS is considered very appropriate. That way, the public and students can quickly access books as windows to the world. He also had time to encourage the campus to provide scholarships. Not only financial but also book scholarships so students can use them well during their studies.
On the other hand, UMM Chancellor Dr. Fauzan, M.Pd., said that the presence of NBS is an inseparable part of UMM's efforts to build an academic climate. Especially for the White Campus academics.
In addition, Fauzan considers that NBS is his party's effort to provide easy access and literacy facilities. It is also part of the book-based education ecosystem, both hard books, and e-books.
"Hopefully, this bookstore can become an object and destination for the community and students searching for literature. So that their insight and knowledge can increase over time, "said Fauzan.

Nurul Hamidah, one of the visitors to NBS, felt comfortable with the atmosphere provided by the bookstore. There are also several books provided, so she can easily find the works of his favorite authors. In addition, Mida, her nickname, also said she was happy because NBS offered complete office stationery.
"It's great to have a bookstore close and complete, especially for me, who likes to read for a long time. NBS certainly provides convenience for me as a community. Likewise for students and students who may need books for their lectures," said the woman from Lumajang.
The NBS is a rebranding of the bookstore, established in 2005. It is also part of UMM's efforts to encourage the younger generation to become a generation that loves books. It is evidenced by the availability of educational books and a series of other slick books. The series of soft launching was also attended by various publishers who contributed to distributing their best books. (cdr/wil)
