The professional class for poultry and shrimp as part of the Center of Excellence (CoE) program based on the study program at the University of Muhammadiyah Malang (UMM) is overwhelmed with the demands of Industry and the World of Work (Iduka). The program, which has been running since 2018, is in great need by UMM students and other campus students.
UMM poultry professional class coordinator, Dr. Ir. Abdul Malik, MP., said the poultry class got particular interest. There are more than 2000 participants who have taken it and have benefited from the process through materials and internships.
This professional class has also attracted various stakeholders from Iduka to get maximum results. PT. Jatinom Indah Farm, PT. Charoen Pokphand, and PT. Sanbe Farma are three of them. There is also PT. Mensana, and PT. Sapta Karya Megah, and a number of other companies.
"This is a prospective program, especially for the future of students. The internship report can be converted into a final project so that when they return from their internship, they can attend the graduation and graduation. So far, the demand from Iduka is also high for the CoE program at UMM," he added.
On the other hand, the Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of PT Jatinom Indah Farm, Sigit Prastyo, SE., said nine locations with 20 close house cages were used for this poultry class program. Half of it will be used for rearing pullet chickens, while the other half will be used for layer cages.
According to Sigit, this poultry class provides theoretical material and direct practice in the company. "Students can also learn how to interact in the work environment and the livestock community. So, it's not just dealing with poultry," said Sigit.
Besides the poultry school, UMM also provides professional prawn classes. UMM Shrimp Class Coordinator Ganjar Adhywirawan Sutarjo, M.P., said that the interest in the program that the White Campus is working on is relatively high. His party has opened and strictly selected dozens of participants from interested students.
The high enthusiasm of students and Iduka is not without reason. Ganjar said this class provides hands-on experience working in an industrial environment. Moreover, more than 17 companies have collaborated with the shrimp class, making it easier for the participants to be placed. Several companies that have been hooked include PT. Garin Agro Sejahtera (GAS), CP Prima, STP (Japfa Aquaculture), PT. Summa Benur, CV. Kawang Royal Vaname, PT. Tanjung Bumi Aquaculture (TBAI), and other companies.
"Recently, some participants have been recruited even though they have not graduated from lectures. I think the Iduka will also benefit because they don't have to bother opening job vacancies thanks to this CoE," he said.
Meanwhile, the CEO of PT. Garin Agro Sejahtera Ir. Hery Sudarmono said his party had opened some shrimp ponds located outside Java. He wanted UMM students to be the driving force in running the ponds by creating maximum innovation and input.
One of the professional shrimp class alumni, Achmad Fatchurrohim, admitted that this program significantly impacted him. After getting experience and theory directly from the company, he immediately put it into practice at his residence. He even hooked up with the Trenggalek Regency fishery office to socialize farmers' water and waste control systems.
"My pond has finally become one of the pilot ponds in the sub-district. I invite other shrimp farmers to pay more attention to the flow of water and waste. Because so far, I have seen only a handful of people do it," said Fatchurrohim.
Meanwhile, the Rector of UMM, Dr. Fauzan, M.Pd., said that these CoE programs were presented to give birth to a capable and independent generation. Not limited to students, but for anyone who wants to increase their capacity in their respective fields. Until now, the White Campus has had various professional classes that can be followed. Some of them are poultry, shrimp, cocoa, orchid, welding inspector classes.
"Besides being a commitment to implementing MBKM, a study-based professional class program is also implemented as a strategic step for students to be able to graduate on time and become independent graduates," explained Fauzan. (cdr/wil)
