Ramadan is not only a momentum for spiritual improvement, but also a month of islah (improvements) and self-transformation to contribute to solving social problems. It was stated directly by the General Secretary of the Muhammadiyah Central Leadership, Prof. Dr. Abdul Mu'ti, M.Ed., in welcoming Ramadan with the theme Muhammadiyah with Social Care. The agenda was held by the University of Muhammadiyah Malang (UMM) on March 8th.

"The fasting month is a month of learning for all of us. Many educational values can be found in this month, and we must be aware of this," he explained.

Furthermore, he cited Charles Duhigg's theory in The Power of Habit on how to build and create new positive habits. There are at least three important points that must be done, there are having the intention, regularly practicing, and giving rewards. Then, he also gave an analogy of the theory with Islamic values in the month of Ramadan.

"The first is the intention, which is definitely our initial foundation for changing ourselves, innamal a'malu binniyat. Then the routine, during the month of Ramadan we are encouraged to fast, then there is also tarawih, then there is i'tikaf and other sunnah practices. And for the last reward, which is the peak, it can be interpreted that in general, the reward is during Eid. But from a personal perspective, it takes individual self-improvement to be better," he explained.

According to him, a change that is being made does not have to be extreme. But it can be done and started with easy and simple things that are done regularly. Especially considering that the habit you want to develop is new and needs a process. This method can also be used and applied in all aspects of life in order to establish a better habit and personality.

Finally, he advised all audiences to maintain good habits and leave bad habits behind. "Habits must be developed. Good habits are maintained and improved, while bad ones are developed better. We do this continuously until the end of our lives," he concluded.

Meanwhile, UMM Rector Prof. Dr. Nazaruddin Malik, SE, M.Si., stated that UMM is ready to provide a strong atmosphere for the holy month. In fact, one of the tangible proofs is the Tarhib Ramadhan Ceria event as an opening act to welcome Ramadan.

"Every Ramadan, UMM always holds Islamic activities to fill and enliven this month. There are routine studies for students, lecturers, and employees. Even there are many unique agendas that have been held. Hopefully the entire academic community of the White Campus will get a blessing from this event, more broadly, namely from this Ramadan month, "he concluded. (faq/wil/put)
