Celebrating the 79th RI Anniversary, UMM Raises Giant Flag at Pujon Hill

At a different location, the University of Muhammadiyah Malang (UMM) raised a giant flag at Pujon Hill UMM. Together with the UMM Nature Lovers Student Division (DIMPA), the 22-meter by 8-meter flag proudly stretched across one of the cliffs at Pujon Hill UMM. This event was part of the celebration of the 79th Anniversary of the Republic of Indonesia (79th RI Anniversary).

Pujon Hill itself is an educational forest managed by UMM. Covering an area of 78 hectares, the location is known as a Special Purpose Forest Area (KHDTK). UMM utilizes this area as a natural highland forest laboratory, especially for students of the Forestry Study Program.

Tatag Mutaqin, S.Hut., M.Sc., the person in charge of the 79th RI Anniversary ceremony at Pujon Hill UMM, stated that the event demonstrated UMM's love for nature. Regarding the raising of the giant flag, he mentioned that this was the third time the Indonesian flag was hoisted at Pujon Hill UMM. This also marks the spirit of UMM's academic community, which is deeply connected to environmental conservation.

On the other hand, UMM Vice-Rector III, Dr. Nur Subeki, ST., MT, emphasized in his address the importance of understanding the true meaning of independence. To preserve it, he explained that Indonesian citizens must have a competitive character, which fosters a strong spirit of learning, and an innovative character, which encourages the creation of new innovations.

"In order to preserve the independence by our heroes have fought for, we must have two important characteristics. First, a competitive character, which is the mentality and attitude that drives a strong desire to learn. Second, an innovative character, which is the mentality that pushes us to always innovate in various areas," he explained.

He also advised all ceremony participants to continuously contribute positively to the nation’s independence, especially as we approach Indonesia’s Golden Era in 2045.
