Nasionalization is the key to free ourselves from the influence of the colonial paradigm. It was emphasized by Prof. Mohammad Reevany Bustami, Ph.D. as an international speaker from Universiti Sains Malaysia at the international guest lecture of the Sociology study program at the University of Muhammadiyah Malang (UMM). The agenda, which was held on May 14, was enlivened by hundreds of enthusiastic students and guests.

Furthermore, Bustami, his nickname, said that nationalization is very important. It includes for sociologists to transform the archipelago's self-based social science. “Thus, we can use our minds, languages, wisdom, and cultural heritage to better understand the reality that exists. In addition, to find solutions to the problems we face while staying in harmony with the world around us without being trapped in the colonizer's view,” he said.

He explained that the concept of nationalization is not just a concept of discourse, but also a necessity to strengthen the identity and collective strength of the Indonesian nation in facing global challenges. Breaking out from colonial influences, Indonesia can explore its potential and build authentic understandings and solutions in accordance with local realities and values. It is also a way of maintaining harmony with the surrounding environment.

Meanwhile, Deputy Dean I FISIP UMM Najamuddin Khairur Rijal, M.Hub.Int. emphasizes full support for similar activities. However, it is also an attempt to increase students' understanding and insight into nationalization in the context of social science.

“UMM always provides various choices and ways to add new insights to students. Thus, you should not miss out on the potential and opportunities that exist. Participate in seminars and conferences then increase knowledge through these agendas. Hopefully, when you go out to the community, you can provide innovative solutions to the problems faced by the community,” he said.
