The University of Muhammadiyah Malang is adding new professors again. This time is from the Social Welfare Department, Faculty of Social Science and Political Science, Prof. Dr. Oman Sukmna, M.Si. He was officially inaugurated on June 10, 2023, as a Professor of sociology science at the Social Welfare Department.
In his speech, he said that in Indonesia, only five professions are protected by the law. There are engineers, lecturers, teachers, nurses, doctors, and social workers. The social work profession is built from a multidiscipline of science, then combined into academic strengths that strengthen the social work profession.

"Social welfare is an area for all social workers involved. Social work has four areas of practice, namely in individuals, families, groups or institutions and in communities or organizations (macro)," he explained.
Furthermore, the macro practices of social work have three advanced courses linked to sociology. Those three areas are social empowerment, social planning, and social action. According to him, the social activity that is included in the social movement should be structured and organized. Oman added that a clear example of this practice is the Muhammadiyah Association which can do it successfully.
Also, the Chairperson of LLDIKTI Region VII East Java. Prof. Dr. Dyah Sawitri SE. MM was present online at the inauguration. She said that UMM, in 2023, created seven professors from various fields. For this achievement, LLDIKTI highly appreciates the White Campus as a university that can realize superior human resources and advance Indonesia.

"Optimizing UMM's opportunities and strengths is always managed according to the needs of universities. Especially with the massive UMM Center of Excellence (CoE) program which is a major advantage in learning programs. UMM also always creates new works and innovations by collaborating with the business world and the industrial world," said Dyah.
Meanwhile, UMM Chancellor Prof. Dr. Fauzan M.Pd. said the scientific speech that had been delivered theoretically reinforced the social program being developed by UMM. Program Profesor Penggerak Pembangunan Masyarakat (P3M) (trans: The Community Development Activator Professor Program) was created to help improve people's lives for the better.
This program is based on capitalizing on the social ecosystem that starts from the potential of social groups in several regions in Indonesia.
"Social work is often interpreted as a job that has no economic impact on its workers by the public. Whereas social work provides very complex social values. That social value must be maintained so that humans will always have a high position in the social system," Fauzan explained.
Fauzan hopes that the inauguration of this professor is not only a ceremonial or formality but also a form of proof of the actual works of the professors. It is also a reflection of being a wise lecturer, having a high intellectual level of thinking and attitude. Thus, it can add positive energy to bring the white campus of UMM a better future.
