The Collaboration between UMM and Jember Immediately Began in the Agricultural and Renewable Energy Fields

It is time for Jember to be an independent region in terms of food and energy, as emphasized by the Regent of Jember, Ir. Hendy Siswanto, S. T.,in the collaborative discussion with the University of Muhammadiyah Malang on January 5, 2023. Besides the rector, UMM also involved experts and professors in directing the cooperation program so it could go well.

Further explaining, Hendy - by his familiar nickname - said that the meeting had aimed to continue the agreed cooperation.  His staff involved UMM  and its experts in collaboration to achieve independent Jember, especially in agricultural and renewable energy systems. The agricultural system focuses on organic farming and its derivatives.

The forum discussed the area mapping for developing organic rice, organic fertilizer, and a micro hydro power plant. On the same occasion, a task force team consisting of UMM staff and the Government of Jember Regency has been directly formed to implement the development. 

“We will also plan to visit UMM next Monday to see various innovations created. Especially, the development of organic rice, organic fertilizer, and a micro hydro power plant has been implemented by UMM since long time ago so that it is undoubted,” asserted the Regent.

On the other hand, the Rector of UMM, Dr. Fauzan, M. Pd., feels excited with the Regent of Jember’s statement that we should not waste solar energy and water. Therefore, a concrete program must be designed and become additional Jember people’s energy source. 

“This synergy must run soon. We don't want to beat around the bush. We must immediately make a concrete step. We also commit to build sustainability for Jember people,” Fauzan ended his statement. (imh/wil)
