FINANCE Director of United States Agency for International Development (USAID) Jeff Collen located at Washington DC specifically came to the University of Muhammadiyah Malang (UMM), Wednesday (5/10), to look the implementation of the program Higher Education Leadership and Management (HELM). This was the result of collaboration program between UMM and USAID regarding the governance of university that had started since 2011 and ended in November 2016.
During his visit, Jeff evaluated the implementation of HELM program. Namely related to general administration and leadership, quality assurance, financial management, also colaboration with external stakeholders.
Moreover, there was also presenting of projects considered success by Jakarta HELM. Including on financial management, more specific about assurrance quality related to student learning. To strengthen the evaluation, USAID also urged authorities to bring the UMM students in giving testimony to assess the level of success of the program implementation.
"From the results of the dialogue, Alhamdulillah (Praise be to Allah) UMM was regarded succeed as one of the universities which implement the HELM program," The Assistant Rector for International Cooperation, Soeparto Said.
"The evaluation results of those activities seem that the Helm Program was relevant to UMM Development.Thus, Helm programs could accelerate the existing programs at UMM. Without HELM, maybe we walk at 70 kilometers per hour, by adding HELM Program we could walk at 90 kilometers per hour, "said Soeparto.
Departing from the success, USAID and UMM will plan to cooperate through Strategic Economic Research and Analysis (SERA) program where UMM will be its leader.
SERA itself was a project of research centers in eastern Indonesia. Moreover, the program also supports the development of policy analysis, strengthening the economy in government in eastern Indonesia, and improving the dissemination and discussion of public-private related to research of economic policy. "According to the plan, the project will involves five Universities in Indonesia which will collaborate with the university of the United States," he explained.
After doing assessment process, Jeff said to the all students, especially for students who has the opportunity to gain experience abroad, the knowledge that was gained could be applied to support the changes and progress in Indonesia.
"You got a very good opportunity to study at UMM. For those who has got the opportunity to study abroad, I hope you can come back to Indonesia to make changes. In addition for environment and family, "Jeff's advice on a number of the UMM students. (Can / han)
