One of the Study Programs (Prodi) at the University of Muhammadiyah Malang (UMM) again received the Superior accreditation. This good news came from the Aquaculture Study Program, commonly known as the Fisheries Study Program. The increase in accreditation will take effect from Tuesday (19/5) until 2025.
Head of the Aquaculture Department, Dr. Hany Handajani, S.Pi, M.Sc., explained that the study program successfully achieved the accreditation after passing strict assessment standards from the National Accreditation Board for Higher Education (BAN-PT). Several accreditation assessments need to be fulfilled, one of which is the quality assurance of study programs following the Internal Quality Assurance Agency (BPMI) standards of UMM and the Directorate General of Higher Education (Ditjen Dikti).
"In addition to quality assurance, we have also implemented the Outcome-Based Education (OBE) curriculum. The Human Resources (HR) that we have are also capable, such as the lecturers, half of whom have achieved a bachelor's degree (S3) and also alumni who have established work," said the lecturer from Jakarta.
Furthermore, Hany explained that in addition to meeting the criteria of BAN-PT, the Fisheries Study Program also has an excellent program called the Shrimp Center Of Excellence (CoE). The program, which has been running for two years, in addition to bringing students closer to the industrial world, also adds to students' skills. That way, when students graduate, students will have not only a diploma but also the skills that are really needed by the industry.
“In this CoE expertise class, we collaborate with several Industries and the World of Work (Iduka), such as PT Garin Agro Sejahtera (GAS), CP Prima, and STP (Japfa Aquaculture). Then PT Summa Benur, CV Kawang Royal Vaname, PT Tanjung Bumi Aquaculture (TBAI), and several others. Alhamdulillah, this program has produced good results, recruiting our students from the professional shrimp industry,” said Hany.
Regarding the achievement of superior accreditation, Hany said that the Aquaculture Study Program could have this achievement thanks to the hard work of all elements at the White Campus. Not only from the campus but also from the efforts of students and alumni.
“Even so, I encourage my friends not to be complacent. Apart from getting national recognition, we are also trying to get recognition at the world level through international accreditation. We are currently preparing the files, and we plan to send them at the end of July or early August,” he concluded. (cdr/syi/wil)
