In his visit to University of Muhammadiyah Malang (UMM) on Wednesday (30/8), Sumitomo Foundation Japan invited UMM to work together to conduct research. Program Officer Planning Department of Sumitomo Foundation, Mr. Kenichi Hamaya, stated that his arrival to white campus because he found the names of some UMM lecturers who have conducted research with The Sumitomo Foundation in his database.
"We would like to invite UMM to conduct research together in various fields, from scientific to humanities," said Kenichi.
Meanwhile, Assistant Rector for Cooperation of UMM, Soeparto, stated that this cooperation is also based on the concern about the many traditions and culture of Indonesia that eroded the current of modernization. "If we observe, Japan as a developed country but still awake about the authenticity of culture and tradition. Meanwhile in Indonesia, with sophisticated of technology right now, many traditions and cultures seemed to fade," said Soeparto.
Although, continued Soeparto, this study will not only cover the field of humanities, but wide open to all areas. Registration to conduct the synergy of the research is open from 1 September to 31 October 2017. During that time, Soeparto projected that there will be at least 10 proposals from UMM that will be registered.
Cooperation between UMM and Japan is not the first time done. Previously, UMM cooperated with Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA) which held a workshop entitled Learning Community for Better Future Educations on last July. In addition, some nursing graduates of UMM were also scattered in several hospitals in Japan. Some even have registered nurse (RN) as professional nurses. (ard)
