On August 15, Universitas Muhammadiyah Malang (UMM) welcomed a visit from the U.S. Consulate General (USCG). Through its American Corner (Amcor), UMM is set to strengthen cooperation in the digital sector. This collaboration is part of the latest US Consul General's  Vision, which focuses on Digitalization.

Abraham Lee, the Public Diplomacy Officer and Director at America, expressed his amazement at UMM. He noted that the university has an abundance of supporting facilities and academic programs, particularly in the field of internationalization. "UMM is very impressive; its development programs are comprehensive, covering both academic and non-academic sectors. The educational climate here is very palpable," he said.

He also observed UMM's readiness for digitalization. With the virtual reality (VR) based digital class, and various digital projects that were developed and practiced directly by the teaching staff and students.

"There are projects involving games and VR. I am confident that UMM is advancing quickly in digital project development, and the benefits will be evident. The pace of technological advancement is very fast," he added.

On the other hand, Ria Arista Asih, Ph.D., Director of Amcor UMM, stated that the visit from the USCG was not only to strengthen the partnership that has been established since 2004, but also to support the programs that Amcor UMM will be hosting, including an upcoming internship program.

"Considering that UMM is the only campus with an Amcor in Malang and there are only two Amcors in East Java, it automatically becomes a reference point for students across East Java. In the future, Amcor at UMM is also projected to serve not only UMM students but also students from outside UMM," she explained.

Ria, as she is commonly known, further explained that the internship scheme will be implemented in September this year. It will involve four study programs at UMM: English Education, Communication Science, International Relations, and Informatics Engineering.

"This internship will be integrated with Amcor and will focus on digital projects, such as video games, digital learning media, and others. It will also involve collaboration with relevant institutions based on the focus of the developed projects," she said.

Finally, she hopes that the internship program will provide students with a new platform to develop their interests, talents, and skills in the digital world. Given that digital technology will continue to expand, it is essential to embrace and utilize it effectively to bring about innovative solutions for the future.

"Indeed, the digital world is ever-evolving, and there will certainly be updates, this is what we must always welcome well. We must utilize it well with the aim of providing useful innovations in the future," she concluded.  (Faq/Fajr)
