UMM Mechanical Engineering Prepares Welding Inspector Class through Industrial Cooperation

University of Muhammadiyah Malang (UMM) continues to develop its center of excellence ideals. Even with efforts to improve its quality as the world's best Islamic university. This time, the Mechanical Engineering Study Program's turn was to re-engage several actors in the Business and Industrial World (DUDI) through a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) and workshops. Some of the companies involved are PT. Spindo, PT. Barata Indonesia, PT. PAL and Lloyd's Register Asia. The schedule was held on Saturday (11/9) at the Amarta Hills hotel, Batu.

Starting the plan, Iis Siti Aisyah, S.T., M.T., P.hD. as chairman of the committee, said that previously they had coordinated and communicated for a long time. Until finally agreed to establish a center of excellence in the field of a welding inspector. "In the last semester, two of the companies have become teaching partners in this field several times. The plan, next semester will be prepared classes with new partners as many as 20 credits, "she added.

Iis, her nickname, revealed who chose this class because mechanical engineering already has several doctors studying welding inspectors. So, there is a need for support from the industry to bring student competencies closer to industry needs. "This class is also a way to achieve the targets in the MBKM 1 and IKU 4 Main Work Indicators, namely the absorption and involvement of practitioners," she continued.

Meanwhile, Dr. Fauzan, M.Pd. Those present explained in their remarks that the leaders were determined to come and inaugurate the collaboration to develop a center of excellence. The same thing was also done when attending the event held by the mechanical engineering study program. "We must both look at the future care for the certainty of the student's future. One of them is through strategic partnerships like this," he added.

He also said that UMM has one good program, namely UMM Pasti, promoted since 2017. This program seeks to ensure the graduation of White Campus students. In addition, it also indirectly answers questions from parents. "There must be certainty of student graduation in the range of three and a half to four years. Thanks to this program, there have been several changes in the supporting curriculum," he said.

Furthermore, there is also another goal of the UMM Pasti program, which is to be sure to work. Therefore, according to him, excellent programs and collaborations like this are very helpful in making it happen. Students will also have a lot of experience and great opportunities in the absorption of existing companies.

Finally, he hopes that the mechanical engineering study program does not stop at welding inspector classes. However, it developed into more diverse courses and passed it on to other study programs. "We have to take futuristic and strategic steps to get benefits for the common good," he concluded. (apg/wil)
