Proud news has surfaced once again. The representative team from Muhammadiyah University of Malang (UMM) won in two categories at the 36th National Scientific Week for Students (Pekan Ilmiah Mahasiswa Nasional, PIMNAS) in Bandung in early December. In this event, the team successfully secured a gold medal in the best poster category and a bronze medal in the presentation category for the Student Creativity Program in Exact Sciences (PKM-RE).

Lely Ayu Puspandari, the team leader, expressed immense pride and joy at her team's achievements. They focused on the theme, "The Potential of Hepatopancreas Bacteriophage and Mangrove Leaf Litter as Technological Innovations for Controlling Acute Hepatopancreatic Necrosis Disease, the Cause of Total Death in Litopenaeus Vannamei."

They chose this theme because they observed a decline in the production of Vannamei shrimp over the past few years. One of the major reasons is the occurrence of AHPND in shrimp ponds. However, shrimp are Indonesia's main export. "Preventing this disease is still ineffective. Hence, we offer a solution through our research," explained Ayu.

This included practicing presentations and creating attractive and informative posters. She felt fortunate because UMM provided full support to students participating in PIMNAS, both materially and non-materially.

"Though our preparation time was relatively short, we utilized it to the fullest. Fortunately, UMM's support provided various necessities before, during, and after participating in the PIMNAS events. We are also grateful to Mr. Soni Andriawan for patiently guiding us and providing excellent direction," she expressed.

Lastly, she advised all young individuals, including UMM students, to continue generating innovations, particularly discoveries that can advance and build the nation. According to her, there's no need to hesitate or fear showcasing interests and talents, especially since UMM consistently offers the best platform for its students, with tens or even hundreds of activities to participate in," she concluded.

Ayu wasn't alone in achieving this victory. She was accompanied by Ike Trisdayanti, Thesa Lonicha Kitvirul A'ini from the Aquaculture program, and Salsabila Roihanah from the Biology Education program. (*faq/wil/fajr)
