The Faculty of Medicine at Universitas Muhammadiyah Malang (FK UMM) has officially earned "Unggul (Excellent)" accreditation, as per the decree dated November 28, 2024. Under the leadership of Dean Dr. dr. Meddy Setiawan, SpPD-FINASIM, FK UMM has further solidified its position as a leading medical education institution in East Java.
"Our main drive in achieving this excellent accreditation is to improve the performance of our graduates. With this accreditation, the opportunities for students to continue their specialist education or enter the workforce will be greater. Additionally, the faculty's governance system, teaching methods, and facilities will significantly improve," said Dr. Meddy.

Dr. Meddy added that the journey to achieve this "Excellent" status was not an easy one. Over the past four years, the faculty has worked hard to address various shortcomings. One of these efforts included increasing the number of lecturers with sufficient functional positions. As a result, FK UMM now boasts four senior lecturers (Lektor Kepala) and five professors, all contributing to the quality of teaching and research at the faculty.
"Alhamdulillah, for three consecutive years, our Computerized Based Test (CBT) exam pass rate has reached 97.4%. Meanwhile, our skills exam pass rate has reached 100%. This is proof of our commitment to the quality of medical education at FK UMM," he added.
FK UMM's excellence is also supported by the development of the Joint Lecture Building (GKB) 5, located in the UMM Hospital area. Full support from the university has enabled the faculty to have modern and representative facilities. In addition, the faculty's scientific publications, both nationally and internationally, have shown a positive trend, which is one of the important points in the accreditation evaluation.
In addition to academic excellence, FK UMM stands out in industrial-based medical education with Islamic values. Dr. Meddy explained that every FK UMM graduate receives an industrial medical certificate before graduation. "This is a unique feature that differentiates us from other medical faculties. The assessors also appreciated the integration of industrial medicine in our curriculum," he said.

Dr. Meddy concluded with great hopes for the future of FK UMM. "We are committed to maintaining this excellent status, achieving international accreditation, and launching specialist programs, starting with ENT (Ear, Nose, and Throat). With a spirit of togetherness and a strict quality assurance system, we are confident that FK UMM will continue to progress," he concluded. (vin/wil/fajr)
