Determined to contribute to overcoming the clean water crisis on the Java island, the University of Muhammadiyah Malang Student Team created a clean water network technology concept based on Namibian beetle wing technology. Indonesia's tropical climate is one of the focuses of the source of technological innovation being developed. Sonya Dzakiyah Zayyanti, as the team leader revealed, this latest technology utilizes the potential of the fog and humidity of the surrounding area to then be managed in such a way as to produce clean water ready to drink.

Sonya, her nickname, said that the concept of the technology was inspired by a video of the beetle's survival ability in the Namibian Desert, Africa, which is known to be extremely barren. Interestingly, the Namibian beetle uses its wings to collect the fog around it to meet the water needs to support its life. From the video, Sonya said that she and her team tried to develop a technological innovation such as a water network or installation that uses fog as the main source to produce clean water.

Furthermore, Sonya has great confidence in the implementation and development of this technological innovation in the next 10–20 years. According to her, the natural potential of the country and this innovation are very suitable to be implemented. She expects that this combination will be able to make a significant contribution to the community.

“Through various research processes and periodic feasibility tests. I am sure that this technological innovation is one of the potential solutions that can help overcome the problem of the clean water crisis that has recently occurred on Java Island, as well as other areas that are suffering from water crisis problems,” she said.

The innovation was invented with strong determination, hard work from the team, and the support of the lecturers. The idea led Sonya and her team to Pekan Ilmiah Mahasiswa Nasional (Pimnas). Nevertheless, Sonya shared the challenges and difficulties they had to overcome. It was the first time Sonya and her team participated in the PKM-GFT competency forum. She admitted that the time required to complete the document was quite short, which made them feel insecure.

“However, these challenges and obstacles, Alhamdulillah, we can overcome them due to the support of both the supervisor and teammates who always support the success of this innovation. Moreover, UMM always supports whatever potential and ideas its students have so that we are more confident. I also want other young people to be able to contribute ideas for a better earth,“ she added. (din/wil/put)
