Defeating dozens of teams from various well-known campuses in Indonesia, the University of Muhammadiyah Malang (UMM) delegation won first place in the National Championship of the Indonesian Search and Rescue (SAR) Robot Contest on June 25. In the competition held at the University of Semarang, the UMM Robot achieved maximum results with a score of 1900 points.

The team contains three talented students, Ahmad Syauqi Ramadhan, and Muhammad Aditya Dzikra, from the Electrical Engineering program, and it is equipped with the qualified abilities of the students.

Syauqi, the head of the UMM robot team, admitted that it was not easy for his team to compete in the national level competition. Many preparations were worked on, including compiling a "coeing" program so that the robot could work as expected to adjust various components.

According to him, the terrain and trajectory that must be conquered are pretty challenging. Interestingly, in the final round, they had to fight against fellow Muhammadiyah universities, namely UMS. The robot was tested in terms of speed, agility, and accuracy.

"We even had to reprogram the coding because the obstacles that had to be solved were quite difficult and different from what we imagined. Thanks to cooperation and a common vision, Alhamdulillah, the Dome robot was able to become the winner," he said.

Syauqi is also grateful to study at UMM. This cannot be separated from the support of the White Campus, not only morally but also materially. Even in this competition, UMM backed up one hundred percent of related funding.

He also said the Dome SAR robot could be implemented directly in various locations. However, an effort must be made to increase the robot's size according to the actual situation. As long as the use of the algorithm is correct, he believes the robot can be used in the field.

This victory was also appreciated by the Supervisor of the Semi-Autonomous Organization (LSO) Robot Faculty of Engineering (F.T.) UMM Khusnul Hidayat, S.T., M.T. He said the team members worked very hard. They will even explore robots during free time between lectures, even until the early morning.

"Then successfully defeated more than 100 teams at the regional level. Positive results were also finally reaped by winning first place nationally. This is certainly a proud achievement and makes UMM proud, "added the Electrical Engineering lecturer.

As coaches, the lecturers also open consultations if further development is needed. He also encouraged the Dome team to do trial and error for the best composition, including related to sensors and robot programming, so that it could pass all the obstacles in the race.

The SAR robot contest is a very prestigious event in Indonesia's robotics world. This year, this event is not only a place for competition but also a place for collaboration, knowledge exchange, and networking. (imh/faq/wil)
