The University of Muhammadiyah Malang (UMM) student team made another achievement in the national championship. The good news came from the Semi-Autonomous Institute (LSO) of Mechatronics, which brought home first place in the COMET 3.0 Boat Race Competition. The activity was organized by the Design and Construction Student Association (HIMADEC) of the Surabaya State Shipping Polytechnic (PPNS) at the end of last March.
One of the team members, Muhammad Naufal Wicaksono, said that his team provided a series of innovations and modifications to the ship he made in the competition. They call it by the name JUFTRONIC. In contrast to existing vessels, the JUFTRONIC Ship uses propulsion in the form of hydrogen, solar cells, and heliogen. The ship does not emit exhaust gas pollution from combustion residues as if using a gasoline or diesel engine by replacing this fuel.

"In that event, we don't only think about the ship's speed but also other aspects. In addition to using environmentally friendly engines, we also equip this ship with a multi-hull catamaran hull deck. This deck has a wide space, so it seems relieved. In addition, with this deck, the ship will be more stable when breaking waves," said the student majoring in Mechanical Engineering.
Furthermore, as he is familiarly known, Naufal said that in the first race, his team lost against the skipjack nine-team from PPNS, whose ship was faster and more stable. As a result of this defeat, the Naufal team entered the low bracket and was contested again with several teams that lost in the first race. After going through several matches and winning, the JUFTRONIC Ship was able to compete again in the semi-finals with the team won.
"In the semi-finals, we met again with the skipjack nine team. However, unlike the competition in the first race, this time, we managed to beat the Cakalang 9 team and advance to the final round. Thank God we managed to get a first place after defeating the Cakalang 11 team in the final," said the student from Lampung.

The middle child of three siblings did not expect to be the first winner. The reason is that this is the first time he has participated in the organization and the ship race. Moreover, the early rounds' defeat had weakened the team's confidence. Even so, he was pleased about the incredible achievement.
"This achievement is a starting point for facing future championships. I hope that the research results on the JUFTRONIC ship can be used as a reference and learning material to face the next competitions," he concluded. (apg/syi/wil)
