The excellent quantity and quality of the University of Muhammadiyah Malang (UMM) research have made it a campus that is included in a nationally independent cluster. Together with other best public and private universities, the White Campus has proven that it can perform the College Tridharma (Translated: Three Pillars of Universities). The Ministry of Education and Research and Technology published this predicate on March 8, 2023.
Deputy Director of the Directorate of Research and Community Service UMM Dr. Vina Salviana Darvina Soedarwo, M.Si. grateful for this achievement. She explained that several criteria must be fulfilled to achieve an independent cluster. Starting from the amount of research and research funds over the last three years, the number of publications in international and national journals, and even the number of books compiled by lecturers.
"In this aspect UMM has indeed become an independent cluster since 2013. This proves that our research and service are considered good and qualified," she said.
However, the woman known as Vina said that the past three years of the pandemic had a significant impact. Moreover, the lecturers and researchers could not go down directly for research then, and the laboratory was closed. But this did not dampen the enthusiasm of the UMM lecturers to continue working and meet the requirements to become an independent campus.

According to her, with the mixed results of this research, the academic community can more easily obtain new knowledge and new insight. This independent predicate from the Ministry of Education and Research and Technology is also a good recognition for UMM.
Vina also explained the strategy used by the UMM and DPPM to achieve independence. One is joining a team of senior lecturers with junior lecturers. That way, there will be a lot of reciprocity between the two in producing research results. In addition, this is done as a regeneration step for lecturers who will retire.
"We are working with the Institute for Scientific Publication Development to assist lecturers who have difficulty in writing. There are even several trainings and workshops so that they can be more familiar and fluent in producing international and national books and journals. We also continue to synergize with other college institutions so that we can maximize each other's potential," she said.

Interestingly, UMM also adopted policies related to lecturers' research. One of them is to encourage them to cooperate with foreign parties to perform the study. Therefore, this program aligns with UMM's vision for 2023, which is to develop campus internationalization.
"Hopefully the cluster that we have achieved since 2013 can continue to be maintained and developed. Even researchers and senior lecturers, who must provide experience and examples, must be enthusiastic. The synergy between the two will provide maximum results," she concluded. (put/wil)
