Education is the most powerful weapon to change and build a country, as said by Dr. Trisakti Handayani, M.M. in the opening parade of “Kursus Pembina Pramuka Mahir Tingkar Dasar (KMD) dan Lanjut (KML)” [Trans.: Beginner and Intermediate Scoutmaster Course] held on August 8th. More than 385 participants from various regions, who are current students of the Teacher Professional Education (TPE) program of the University of Muhammadiyah Malang (UMM), participated in this activity.
Trisakti, who serves as the Dean of the Faculty of Teacher Training of UMM, continued saying that teachers play an important role in generating future superior human resources. Therefore, it is necessary to consider and improve teachers’ quality, so students can get assistance and reach their best potential.

“You (all) are future professional teachers who are expected to be able to generate excellent and capable generation. Besides knowledge, you must be personally strong and never give up. Thus, this scoutmaster course will equip you to develop relevant skills,” said the Dean.
According to her, this kind of activity can encourage TPE students to be diligent, self-sacrificing, helpful, and role models to others. These will increase educators’ quality and contribute to making Indonesia prosperous.
“In this program, you will be trained, so you can face global challenges. Through KMD and KML, character-building will be successful. Hopefully, you can utilize this opportunity well,” said Trisakti.
For 3 days and 2 nights, the participants were equipped theoretically and taught how to be competent coaches. A range of games and agendas trained them mentally. One of the participants, Nurul Himmatul, considered that the series of activities followed was fascinating. The experience offered by the TPE program of UMM also made the future teachers eager to participate.
“Honestly, the last time I joined a scout camp was when I was in senior high school. Until finally, I could camp again with friends. The difference is, in the past, we were trained as participants. But now, we are trained to be coaches for students," she said.
Nurul also felt happy for being able to help each other, build dozens of tents, and spend their time with other participants. According to her, joining this program can give her many experiences due to discussions with other prospective teachers and games and challenges provided by the scout trainers, which enhanced the participants’ knowledge about scouting.
