The world needs 1.8 billion young people to take part in making changes and making the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) successful. The Resident Representative of the United Nations Development Program (UNDP) Jakarta, Mr. Norimasa Shimomura, confirmed this at the 107th graduation of the University of Muhammadiyah Malang. Thousands of graduates and guests attended the graduation, which was held on 21 February 2023.

Norimasa also conveys the concept of Ikigai in life to the graduates. According to him, Ikigai is the concept of seeking happiness. There are two exciting points in the Ikigai concept.

The first thing is about achievement. Today must be better than yesterday, while tomorrow will be better than today. Then the second one is related to appreciation. How should humans behave and respect each other because humans need each other.

"Everyone has a different path to reach Ikigai. Everyone has their own way and their own path to reach happiness, "he said.

Furthermore, Norimasa also emphasized that graduates will face a life full of surprises. For example, today, the world faces a crisis caused by a pandemic and global warming. But all these problems must have a solution.

He also introduced the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) as a way out to the graduates. "SDG's aim is to protect the environment and how to create the world to be a better place for humans. Therefore, it takes a lot of young people like you to take part in this SDG's, "explained Norimasa.

Finally, he also congratulated the graduates. According to him, graduation is not the end but the beginning of the actual test. "I believe you will be successful and happy and find the meaning of your own ikigai. Don't forget always to be a good human being who contributes to society," he hoped.

On the same occasion, H.E Mr. Vazken Kavlikan, Lebanese Ambassador to Indonesia, was also present. He gave various advice to graduates. He emphasized that even though the study period that had been passed was challenging, he was sure that the graduates would miss their time studying on campus.

"Unlike studying on campus, when you enter society, all you have is yourself. There you will learn something and find the best and most extraordinary teachers. That teacher is usually known as a mistake. But don't be afraid to make mistakes because mistakes will teach you to be better," said Vazken.

Another piece of advice given by Vazken is always to love the work you do. That is the way to make every job feel easy. He also advised graduates not to fear facing an uncertain world situation because there will always be a solution.

Moreover, UMM Rector Dr. Fauzan, M.Pd., advised the graduates to prepare to face an uncertain world. Therefore, there needs to be aware of not being an ordinary human being but a human being that can change the world from skeptical to specific. He emphasized that the presence of the graduates had been expected to become problem solvers in society.

"Congratulations on your success in pursuing knowledge on this white campus. I believe you will become a successful person, make your parents proud and be useful for religion and the nation," hoped Fauzan. (put/zak/wil)
