UNIVERSITAS Muhammadiyah Malang (UMM), Monday (24/07), dispatched 20 senior high school students to China to attend Summer Camp. They had opportunity to go to Bamboo Curtain Country which is the winner of National Chinese Competition, namely general knowledge competition of China held by UMM in cooperation with Confucius Institute. The 20 senior high school students managed to put aside 2,369 participants who followed the race.
For two weeks, July 24 to August 6, 2017, in addition to know more about Chinese culture and language, the students will be invited to visit some of iconic places in China, including The Great Wall and Tiananmen Square. Furthermore, they were invited to visit educational exhibitions at several universities in China as well.
One of the participants, George Geraldo, Imanuel Christian vocational student Pontianak, West Kalimantan expressed his gratitude in the list of students who were departed. "Coming back from China, I want to motivate my friends to go to China as well," he said.
Competition held in February to April 2017 ago was a collaborative program of UMM and Consulate General of China through Confucius Institute. The third time competition held at UMM was a form of trust of Confucius Institute to UMM. This was because UMM had been well-cooperative in each program of Confucius Institute.
"In addition to a similar competition held by the Chinese Consulate General in Surabaya last year, three UMM students won first and third prizes. In fact, UMM also won the title for the college category with the most participants, which were 332 students," said Assistant Rector of UMM Cooperation Division, Suparto, in his opportunity attending Closing Ceremony National Chinese Competion 2017.
While the coordinator of China Corner UMM, Karina Sari, explained that, at the end of 2017, 22 UMM students would also be dispatched to China through the same program. The opportunity they gott through the participation in Mandarin free courses held in China Corner UMM. (ard)
