The University of Muhammadiyah Malang (UMM) continues to expand its international cooperation. Most recently, UMM discussed an exciting collaboration with King’s College London (KCL) on June 25. This primarily involves the development of the Center for Future Works (CFW) and Center of Excellence (CoE), initiatives that have already been undertaken by the White Campus. Dr. Helen Bailey, Deputy Vice President of Global Business Development at KCL, was present at the occasion.

"UMM is a beautiful and excellent campus. I truly feel the commitment from the rector and UMM's leadership team to continually develop this campus. This includes the capabilities of its students, the quality of its education, and its efforts to assist and serve the community," said Helen.

Regarding the collaboration, she sees many aspects that can be worked on together. Moreover, UMM will also develop CoE and CFW programs in the same area, namely the Singhasari Special Economic Zone, which will facilitate future collaborations. This could include workshops, student activities, and more.

"It so happens that we have obtained permission to establish KCL in the Singhasari SEZ and will launch a branch of KCL there in September. Hopefully, each university can encourage each other to become better," she emphasized.

On the other hand, UMM's Vice Rector IV for Research, Community Service, and Cooperation, Muhamad Salis Yuniardi, M.Psi, PhD., mentioned that KCL's presence in Malang could serve as a catalyst for other universities to improve their quality. It's not just about competition between universities, but more importantly, about cooperation and partnerships between universities. He believes that the government's policy to open up foreign education in Indonesia has positive intentions.

"It's not just competition, but also a platform for collaboration. Therefore, UMM and KCL want to prove this by becoming mutually influential partners," he emphasized.

The development and investment of UMM programs in the Singhasari SEZ also have strong reasons, particularly focusing on human resource development. This aligns with UMM's vision of providing future-skilled human resources. One of the strategies is through CFW and CoE. Ultimately, both centers will become strategically important programs.

"In terms of cooperation with UMM, there will certainly be many avenues. For example, research collaboration or drug development. Because KCL is renowned for its excellent nurses, while UMM already has a competent and accomplished hospital," he affirmed.  (wil/fajr)
