The University of Muhammadiyah Malang not only focuses on enhancing education quality but also public welfare, like establishing partnerships with various regions, including Jember. Through the discussion with the Regent of Jember, Ir. Hendy Siswanto, S. T., with his staff on January 2, 2023, the university began cooperating in several aspects: agriculture, renewable energy, aviation, and education.
Interestingly, the Rector of UMM, Dr. Fauzan, M. Pd, alongside the Vice Rector II, Dr. Nazaruddin Malik, M. Si. got on the plane of the Blue Flying Club of UMM, one of the student units, which landed at the Airport of Notohadinegoro, Jember.

To welcome the group of the White Campus, Hendy, his familiar nickname, said that his staff needs innovation done by UMM. In fact, many products and inventions of UMM can be imitated and implemented in Jember.
“One of the interesting things is the agricultural field. It is how UMM can cope with a fertilizer problem in various regions. Jember also has a similar issue, so we expect our collaboration with UMM to be able to overcome this problem. Primarily, UMM has used organic fertilizers in Situbondo, and they successfully work. Accidentally, we are also preparing to build an organic fertilizer factory”, uttered he.

Hendy also appreciates UMM, which soon involves experts in the agricultural field to give feedback. Later, on January 5, 2023, several professors will attend to provide solutions concerning problems encountered. Therefore, it can accelerate the actual activities between those two things.
On the same occasion, the Rector of UMM, Dr. Fauzan, M. Pd., perceives that Jember has massive potency. In the agricultural field, Jember is the third most rice producer region in East Java. Unfortunately, farmers mainly depend on chemical fertilizers, and their price gradually rises.
“It automatically and naturally harms the farmers. Hence, UMM is ready to collaborate with Jember in generating solutions through organic fertilizers; especially, since we are well-experienced. We expect to minimalize the production cost to advantage the farmers. Both our aim and the Regent of Jember’s is same: to prosper society,” said the Rector.
In other aspects, UMM and Jember plan to develop a renewable energy system at several points. There will be three points in Fauzan’s view, which the renewable energy system can improve, specifically, micro hydro power plant. (imh/wil)
