The University of Muhammadiyah Malang (UMM) has again confirmed the appointment of two professors on May 18. This confirmation is proof that UMM's quality is highly competent and superior. The two professors from the Faculty of Economics and Business (FEB) are Prof. Dr. Idah Zuhroh, M.M., and Prof. Dr. Widayat, M.M. Both have their respective expertise and interesting research.

For example, in her scientific oration, Idah discussed the extension of the role of Islamic banking in promoting the achievement of the SDGs: a multilayered approach and strengthening regulations based on intersectoral cooperation. According to her, the role of Islamic banking in promoting sustainable development is becoming increasingly important, as it can be a key player in mobilizing funds for projects that support the SDGs. Additionally, sustainable development challenges cannot be addressed through a one-dimensional approach and require strong intersectoral regulations.

"This indicates that the financial sector, especially Islamic banking, has an important role in making a real contribution to global development goals and the SDGs," she added.

She also discussed the concept of multilayered Islamic financing. This concept is inspired by the anatomy of a building, which consists of the foundation, pedestal, and pillars. The foundation consists of a mature regulatory framework, strong commitment, and adequate financial infrastructure. These three foundation elements support the five main pillars: product and financing diversification, human resource capacity development, risk management and sharia compliance, capital adequacy, and sharia financial literacy and adoption.

Strengthening intersectoral policies implemented through open innovation-based collaboration is also important. Cross-sector collaboration and open innovation are key to successfully enhancing the intermediation role of Islamic banking, which in turn helps improve SDG achievement.

On the other hand, in his oration, Widayat explored building a balanced and sustainable lifestyle to achieve better holistic well-being. He explained that issues regarding the green economy, green marketing, green consumer behavior, and responsible production and consumption, which are pillars of sustainable development (SDGs), leave interesting challenges. Therefore, creating a balanced and sustainable lifestyle is crucial. Moreover, according to him, the well-being and happiness of society are not only determined by income levels and other economic measures. Social and environmental conditions determine well-being and happiness.

"Improving well-being can be achieved not only by increasing income but also by enhancing the quality of the environment where people work and live. Even social problems, such as unhealthy lifestyles, chaotic transportation issues, and poor physical environmental conditions, strongly contribute to well-being. This includes air pollution, environmental contamination, waste problems, and more," he added.

Widayat continued, to create good social environmental conditions, forming relatively permanent behavior habits of promoting good and preventing evil can be achieved through integrative preaching. Social marketing is an approach that adopts the principles of conventional marketing, which is more relevant to social and environmental problems compared to traditional approaches often applied, such as fines, penalties, or mere social campaigns.
