After launching the Dirgantara Biru Flying Club Student Activity Unit (UKM), now the University of Muhammadiyah Malang (UMM) launched the Golf UKM on Saturday (23/7). This unit is a potential place for students who have interests and talents in the field of golf. Interestingly, these two UKM are the result of collaboration between UMM White Campus and Abd Saleh Air Base, Malang.
The launching was marked by the handing over of golf clubs from the Rector of UMM, Dr. Fauzan, M.Pd., and Air Force Commander Abd Saleh Zulfahmi, S.Sos, M.H. to two representatives of UMM Golf UKM. This activity was also part of a series of UMM enlivening the Abd Saleh Airfield Golf Tournament in the context of the anniversary of the 32nd Air Squadron and the 022nd Engineering Squadron.
Zulfahmi considers golf a complete sport. Not only to get a healthy body but also as a means of entertainment. Even by expanding the network and working relationships that have been established.
“So golf is not only a sport but can get many benefits. Hopefully, this golf tournament can continue to be held so that the relationship between participants, committee, and Malang residents can be established,” he added.
Meanwhile, Fauzan explained that before the Golf UKM, UMM and Abd Saleh Air Base had also collaborated in the aerospace sector by launching the Blue Flying Club UKM. From the two activities, it is hoped that reliable leaders will emerge from the two related sectors.
He continued that UMM encouraged two abilities for its students. First, namely, the academic competence obtained through the lectures undertaken. Then the second is leadership skills.
"These leadership skills can be obtained from various organizations that UMM has provided. One of them is through UKM Golf which was just launched today," he said.
According to him, producing a leader from one door alone is impossible. There must be other doors for more good leaders. Leadership ability is one of the main things even if you want to win the competition with human resources from other countries.
This activity is a joint commitment of UMM-Abd Saleh Airport to form a disciplined, challenging, and responsible generation, especially in golf. Moreover, seeing that it is still rare for young golf athletes who are born on campus. Later, this golf course will also be the basecamp for UMM students' golf training. Even with the process of training and coaching provided by trainers from the Airbase.
The chairman of the UMM Golf UKM, Akbar Cahya Krisdana, said that students' enthusiasm to join was very high. One hundred students registered and took part in the selection. Some of them successfully passed the test and became members.
"We also regularly train once or twice a week. Luckily, UMM always accommodates every student's potential, such as forming this Golf UKM," he explained.
In the future, his party wants to hold fun games by inviting communities from various campuses throughout Indonesia. Even shortly will design a national-level student golf tournament.
He also hoped that UMM Golf UKM could produce athletes with qualified skills so that they could represent UMM or even their hometown to compete in prestigious competitions. Either at the national or even international level. (cdr/wil)
