University of Muhammadiyah Malang (UMM) again has a new professor. Prof. Dr. Muslimin Machmud M.Si. was officially inaugurated last Wednesday (9/3) in front of hundreds of guests and invitees. Meanwhile, Muslims is the first professor in traditional media communication in Indonesia.

Fauzan revealed that Muslims are humble people, hard workers and full of responsibility, and reliable problem solvers. The scientific oration delivered by Muslims was considered attractive. According to Fauzan, the communication culture of today's society tends to be direct and instant. Only a few use satire and symbols such as rhymes and poetry.
"Poems and rhymes are now only used for art or literature. Even though it used to be a medium to advise others. Once again, I congratulate Professor Muslimin. Hopefully, it can inspire and spread the benefits of sharing, "he said.
In line with Fauzan, the Head of the UMM Dairy Development Board and the Coordinating Minister for Human Development and Culture (PMK), Prof. Dr. Muhadjir Effendy, M.A.P., also congratulated Muslims on their achievements in reaching the top of the highest level in the academic field. According to him, becoming a professor should be a dream for all lecturers, like an officer who aspires to become a general.
"I am also proud because, under the leadership of Mr. Fauzan, UMM was able to produce new professors so profusely. Not only in terms of numbers but also good in terms of age which is quite young," he said.
Regarding the results of Muslim research, Muhadjir considered that this study was unique because not many people paid attention to it. According to him, legacy media will continue to inspire the spirit of mass media development at any time. It was also felt that the study would be better if it was accompanied by an anthropological study.
Meanwhile, in his speech, Muslimin explained the empowerment of legacy media during the onslaught of modern media. According to him, modern media also hurts society in addition to the benefits and conveniences. So, legacy communication techniques are still needed to maintain social balance.
He continued what can obtain several functions of legacy media. He started from entertainment functions such as joke material and player behavior, education and da'wah functions, promotion and dissemination of information. Likewise, with its role in socialization efforts and political propaganda, social control to preserve cultural values.
"Based on this study that I researched, legacy media focuses on three main things, namely the relationship between humans and humans. Then the relationship between humans and nature and their relationship with God the Creator. The three of them also have their patterns that are different from one another," he said.
So, according to Muslims, heritage media which are cultural products of the community, need to be empowered. Especially considering that the media has become part of the wisdom of the community as well as a cultural work and an asset of a nation. "Thus, the existence of heritage media can be felt directly by the community as an effective means of communication. Especially to the life of society, nation, and state," he concluded.
