UMM Achieved Indonesian Achievement Icon Award from President Jokowi

Fauzan as the Rector was representing UMM received Appreciation of Indonesian Achievement Icon Award.

 

UNIVERSITY of Muhammadiyah Malang (UMM) again achieved a prestigious title. Recently, it was from the President of Republic of Indonesia, Joko Widodo. Fauzan as the Rector representing UMM received Appreciation of Indonesian Achievement Icon along with 71 other achievement icons from all over Indonesia in the Indonesian Achievement Festival event at Jakarta Hilton Convention Center (JHCC), Monday (8/21).

Indonesian Festival Achievement is an exhibition, art performances, as well as awards for various circles who are considered as a model of inspiration of Indonesian society. The festival was held by Working Unit of President of Ideology Development of Pancasila (UKP-PIP). UMM was chosen because the campus robot team won the International Robot Contest at Trinity College, Connecticut United States, 1-2 April 2017 ago. 

 

"This achievement  will be one of the triggers against the quality tradition developed by UMM. This tradition is not only done by lecturers, but also students. For us, there is no day without achievement, and no unappreciated achievements," said Fauzan after receiving the award from President Joko Widodo. The award was given by Sony Suharsono, Third Deputy of UKP-PIP who representing the President.

 

In the contest, UMM robot team managed to beat the finalists from Canada, China, Israel, Portugal, United Arab Emirates, and host the United States. From the triumph of the robot team in the international arena, the appreciation of the achievement icon was given to UMM. Of the four categories established by the committee, namely Scientist and Innovator, Sports, Arts-Culture, and Social Activists. UMM belonged to the category of Scientist and Innovators.

There are two things of advantages of UMM robots in the game titled Trinity College Fire Fighting Home Robot Contest (TCFFHRC), namely the speed and accuracy. The robot is equipped with ten sensors, eight ultrasonic sensors and two infrared sensors as proximity sensors. These sensors are used to easily detect the position of candles and can reach the candles quickly and precisely. The robot is also equipped with flame sensor UVTRON R9454 to detect candle flame and capable of capturing ultraviolet light with a spectrum range of 185 nanometers (nm) to 260 nm where the range is only owned by flue gas.

Fauzan is optimistic that UMM can continue to encourage and facilitate the development and design of a more mature of robot made by Imam Fatoni, Ikhlal Aldhi Wijaya, and Salis Muchtar Fadhilah. The robots will be displayed in a festival of research held at UMM by the end of this year. This festival is a concrete step so that the results of research and work of UMM students are known by industry and entrepreneurs. (ard)
