Nowadays, the digital era has grown rapidly. No wonder that every kind of action can be done through the internet. Such as reading books, which can be done at any time by simply opening a gadget. It encouraged the Afiliasi Penerbit Perguruan Tinggi Muhammadiyah Aisyiyah (APPTIMA) to organize a workshop on how to manage book publishing and consolidation on September 10-12 at the University of Muhammadiyah Malang (UMM). During the event, UMM Press was the host and APPTIMA saw that e-books have selling points that are no less attractive than printed books.

APPTIMA Director, Budi Nugroho, stated that this workshop seeks to encourage the new generation to improve their habit of reading books wherever they are. The workshop also provided various topics such as the history of book publishing, book publishing management, institutional policies on scientific book publishing, and tips on writing scientific books. The participants were members of Perguruan Tinggi Muhammadiyah and Aisyiyah (PTMA) throughout Indonesia. In addition, the representatives of the National Library, Gramasurya, and others also participated.

“The event is a forum for collaborative learning related to book management and publishing at each university. Hopefully, we can help each other to improve the quality and capacity of book management,” said Budi.

According to him, improving the human resource capacity of publishing managers is important and a challenge. Therefore, APPTIMA will continue to provide guidance and training. He also appreciated UMM's full support and facilitation of this event. Especially the publisher, UMM Press, which is able to fulfill its role well.

APPTIMA will continue to support the development of literacy in the digital era. One of them is by focusing on book publishing by academics but also encouraging literacy among students by conducting training to write opinion articles, journals, and novels. Hopefully, this will increase the reading, reasoning and writing capacity of each individual student.

“We will also make sure that the quality of the books is maintained at each publisher. We will keep an eye on the small details such as the substance, author, team performance, layout design, cover, and downstream marketing,” he added.

Moreover, he said that all parties have a role to play in improving reading and literacy. That includes Muhammadiyah, which has contributed to the nation through education since before independence. “We must be able to create a favorable writing atmosphere for academics so that later they can produce quality books that are worth reading and worth marketing. This will certainly lead to efforts to educate the nation,” he concluded. (Zaf/Wil/Put)
