The University of Muhammadiyah Malang (UMM) has accredited as an Unggul campus. The predicate is contained in Decree No. 858/SK/BAN-PT/AK-ISK/PT/IX/2021, which it dropped last Thursday (30/9). The decree stated that UMM had met the requirements for the Unggul accreditation.
This predicate is the highest peak of the higher education accreditation system. The predicate is stated in Permendikbud Number 5 of 2020 concerning Accreditation of Study Programs and Higher Education which changes the A/B/C format to the Excellent/Very Good/Good form.
Dr. Fauzan, M.Pd. The Rector of UMM said that higher education is a formal institution that must follow the existing rules. One of them is applying for accreditation. "This accreditation is a form of our seriousness in running the university. We can't just say that we are strong and great, but we must prove it through accreditation," he said.
Fauzan again said that accreditation also illustrates the credibility of universities as institutions that organize Tri Dharma. He was grateful that UMM was trusted to carry out the predicate of an Unggul accreditation. This trust cannot be separated from the cooperation of all elements and parties at the White Campus.
He admitted that this accreditation was not enough. Various derivative responsibilities also arise and must be implemented immediately. One of them is to convince the public that UMM is worthy of Unggul accreditation. Not only through verbal and audiovisual channels but also to ensure that the output of UMM can become independent individuals.
"Kampus Putih always strives to produce alumni who are independent and at the same time taken into account in the community. We want to be recognized as "Unggul" formally and recognized as "Unggul" by the wider community. Not only, the cover is "Unggul," but also the content in it," he said.
Fauzan assessed that this achievement could not be separated from the various efforts and struggles of the White Campus so far to gain the government's trust. He also said that this accreditation would provide many benefits. One can be used as strategic capital to strengthen relations with parties both at home and abroad.
Meanwhile, Prof. Dr. Syamsul Arifin, M.Sc. as Vice-Rector I of UMM, explained that this achievement was obtained by White Campus thanks to its success in fulfilling the three elements set by the National Accreditation Board for Higher Education (BAN-PT). First, UMM is considered to have sufficient human resources (HR) and permanent lecturers to carry out the educational process. Then, BAN-PT also believed that the White Campus quality assurance system had reached the standard. Likewise, with the quality and quantity of publications owned.
Furthermore, Syamsul said that the White Campus was confident that it could maintain this Unggul accreditation. This result cannot be separated from obtaining recognition from the government. Mainly, there are aspects of human resources and lecturers, quality assurance systems, and publications.
He also emphasized that UMM is an Unggul campus. So there needs to be an effort to appreciate, care for and maintain it. Moreover, the important thing is to gain recognition from the government and society. One of the hopes is that there will be an increase in public interest in implementing education at the White Campus. Likewise, the number of collaborations are increased.
Other forms of UMM's efforts that can be seen are various international certifications and efforts to build a study program-based center of excellence (CoE). According to him, the presence of CoE in collaboration with the Business and Industrial World (DUDI) will provide opportunities, certainty, and experience for students. In addition, this CoE will also strengthen UMM's achievements in obtaining Superior accreditation, both based on study programs and institutions.
"This Superior Accreditation is one of the stages that UMM must go through. White Campus will continue to move and take systematic and strategic steps to gain recognition at a higher level, namely international. So that it can become an internationally recognized campus and become part of a world-class university," he concluded. (wil)
