UMM Won Most Popular Design at the 2019 NTU Bridge Design Competition

The bridge team of ST Langgeng Jaya University of Muhammadiyah Malang (UMM) won the Most Popular Design at the Nanyang Technological University (NTU) event at the Bridge Design Competition 2019 in Singapore, (9-10 / 3). Not only that, this team which was chaired by Vicky Adjie Saputra and Novan Surya Adityawan was also ranked in the top 10 of this prestigious Southeast Asian bridge competition event.

This international event was the first time attended by the UMM bridge team. "During we have followed and won various bridge design events at the national level. Now is the time for us to study out to plant the UMM flag in the international arena, "said Ir. Erwin Rommel, MT. as the supervisor of ST Langgeng Jaya Team who was a UMM Civil Engineering lecturer.

Bridges were tested through efficiency and strength criteria. This assessment refers to the theme of the competition namely Strength, Economic, Sustainability. "So the committee tells you what to do, a few hours before the match. The assessment is In terms of the most efficient use of materials, as well as being able to withstand as much test load as possible, to the point of destruction," he explained.

There were at least 38 teams participating in the competition which was participated in by various universities in Southeast Asia. Not miss the prestigious domestic campuses also enlivened. Like the University of Indonesia (UI), the Ten November Institute of Technology (ITS) and various campuses that often won other national level bridge competitions, including Surya Team UMM.

"Before this event began, there were some preparations and readiness that we had done a few weeks earlier. Among them by testing several types of bridge designs, then we evaluate and improve so that we are able to find the right design, "he continued.
