University of Muhammadiyah Malang (UMM) re-carved achievement. This time on the title of Student Award of the Year 2017 Ministry of Research, Technology and Higher Education (Kemenristekdikti). UMM won the International Student Activity Achievement Award as the General Winner of International Level Robot at Trinity College in United States 2017.
Vice Rector III, Dr. Sidik Sunaryo., SH., M.Si., M.Hum said that to maintain the achievement, his side always makes various innovations and strengthen the system of potential development and student's excellence. It has always been a top priority.
"In UMM, all the programs for the development of student creative works are priorities. We have a principle in the guidance of student affairs from participation to achievement," he explained on Friday (8/12).
Sidik further explained, it is also seriously doing tiered coaching to prepare students to follow various competitions.
"So, we have an interest profile of student creativity talent. We identify potentials from beginner to superior," he added.
Not stop there, the next campus will accommodate and provide assistance to students able to work with the maximum. For example, for robots. In supporting the interest in this field, UMM has a Semi Autonomous Institute (LSO) Robotics in the Faculty of Engineering.
"In the LSO, there is a special coach of lecturers whose main activities related to the robot. We form teams of students, from R & D team to creative team whose job is to make robot. After the robot so, there is a monev team to conduct trials until the robot is ready to follow the competition," he said.
The Night of Grace Student of 2017 was held as a form of appreciation and motivation for various activities of Student Affairs in Kemenristekdikti. The event is expected to be an encouragement for students to continue to work in reasoning, creativity, interest, talent, and mental spiritual.
Minister of Research, Technology and Higher Education (Menristekdikti) Mohamad Nasir conveyed, improving the quality of students cannot only be done through academic activities or learning in the classroom. Other activities such as the establishment of 'soft skill' capabilities packaged through student activities are also needed to be run.
"This is what makes the student activities have a strategic position in the formation of human resources in Indonesia in the future.Good intellectual ability, must be supported by good soft skills as well. We provide students to face the millenial era as it is today," Nasir's message in a press release Kemenristekdikti on Wednesday (6/12).
Furthermore, Director General of Learning and Student Affairs Kemenristekdikti, Intan Ahmad also said how important the activities of student affairs in facing problematic in the 21st century especially to form the ability of students in mastering science and humanities.
"We do have innovation, science and technology, but without accompanied by good student activities, we are not ready to win the competition in this millenial era." Students must continue to be trained and collaborate with existing student activities," said Intan. (ard)
