UMM Is Ready to join competition of Save Energy Cars in the International event

University of Muhammadiyah Malang (UMM) Singhasari Super Mileage Team had launched energy efficient cars named Barqun Speed, on Friday (17/2). Car created by collaboration of electrical engineering and mechanical engineering students, Faculty of Engineering (FT), UMM was made to be competed in the Shell Eco Marathon Asia which was held in Changi-Singapore on 15 to 19 March 2017.

UMM would be represented by six students. They are Abdul Qowi as team manager, as well as members of tim Yudho Terial Panji, Intan Maharani, Ali Mahfud, Fikri Akbar and Afriansyah. They will face more than100 teams from 34 teams from Asia and Indonesia.

"Barqun Speed is a prototype electric car that is aerodynamically designed, stylish, has a lightweight body and also the transmission system which is very systematic," said Iis Siti Assia, Ph.D. when asked to explain the benefits of the car.

"So far, based on the experimental results, the electricity used 320 meter/kWh and will continue to be improved," said Iis.

In addition, continued Iis, all the materials used were very light. Among them was aluminum made of fiberglass. "In terms of transmission systems has also been taken into account as detailed as possible," said lecturer from Technical Engineering, Faculty of Engineering (FT) UMM.

It took a long time for the team prepared everything. Stages traversedwere application and administration selection via online, until passed. "For about four months we prepare everything from zero to create this energy-efficient electric cars," said Iis.

Meanwhile, Manager of Abdul Qowi team declared himself and the team was optimistic to be a top-3 in the proto electric class. Previously, UMM won four in a national car event held in Kenjeran, Surabaya in 2014. "With all the preparations have been done, we optimist are able to enter to the three larges class of proto electricity," expected Qowi. (Jal / can)
