To find the best talents and potential of students, the Indonesian Student Sports Development Board (Bapomi) held a Provincial Student Sports Week (Pomprov) throughout East Java (East Java). Various sports were contested, one of which was Taekwondo, held at the University of Muhammadiyah Malang (UMM) last Sunday (20/3). Multiple universities also enlivened and competed with each other to win the championship.

The chief executive of the 2022 Pomprov, Imam Hariyadi, said that one of the goals of this plan was to inflame the spirit of sport. Especially among universities that were sluggish due to the Covid-19 pandemic. In addition, it is also a series towards the National Student Sports Week (Pomnas) which will be held in West Sumatra (Sumbar) in the next few months.

"From this Pomprov competition, we can also see new potentials from students. So that we can get the seeds of winners who will compete at the national level later," he added.

The champions in this event do not automatically become representatives of East Java in Pomnas. According to Imam, there will be other selection and monitoring. The winners will be called and will compete for seats in Pomnas. Not only among the champions in Pomporv but also among several names who have participated in Puslatda.

"So in this competition, athletes from Puslatda are not allowed to participate. Well, later when the selection for representatives of East Java, they can only compete, " said Imam.

On the other hand, UMM Vice Chancellor III Nur Subeki said that he appreciated the choice of UMM to host two sports. Among them are Taekwondo and Pencak Silat branches. The host of the Pomporv event is a campus in Malang Raya. Slain White Campus, six other campuses are also the competition's locations.

Eki, his nickname, continued that events like this were beneficial. Especially for students who can get used to competing. Until finally, it can bring up good leadership in the field of sports. Besides that, it also encourages new students to know that they can also excel in their respective areas and passions.

"It doesn't have to be taekwondo or Pencak silat. New students can also participate in other Student Activity Units according to their respective preferences. Hopefully, with a plan like this, we can find new seeds that will excel and make the campus name, East Java, and even Indonesia proud," he concluded. (apg/wil)
