University of Muhammadiyah Malang (UMM) is in cooperation again with several institutions. This time the cooperation was done with Halal Product Guarantee Agency (BPJPH) Ministry of Religion and The Indonesian Food and Beverage Association (GAPMMI), Saturday (16/3)
The cooperation was discussing halal product guarantee, institutional development, and vocational school. The cooperation agreement was signed by the Rector of UMM Dr. Fauzan M.Pd and Prof. Dr. Ir. Sukoso, M.Sc., PhD, Head of BPJPH and Adhi S. Lukman, the Chairman of GAPMMI. This event was held at once with the National Seminar.
“Based on the Central Bureau of Statistics data 2019, the total population of Indonesia is 264 million people. While 222 million people are Muslim. This shows that the needs of food and halal consumption ingredient in Indonesia must be proportional with the total amount of Muslims in Indonesia,” said Sukoso.

Related with the cooperation establishment of the vocational school, the attendance of the Head of BPJH is to establish the study program of Asian Halal Culinary. The cooperation between UMM and GAPMI was to establish the study program of Baking and Pastry. While the upcoming vocational school will be established soon.
Not only those two events, one day before (15/3) was also held Food Quiz Bowl which is an English quiz contest about food technology. This every two years event were attended by several universities in Indonesia, such as IPB, ITB, and another famous university.

Later, the winner of the Food Quiz Bowl will be sent to the ASEAN level and represent Indonesia. Luckily the event will be held around the end of 2019 in Bali, Indonesia. As said by the event coordinator Dr. Ir. Damat, MP, the 5th Food Quiz Bowl in UMM that this event was running pretty well and smooth.
This event also attended by the chairman of PATPI Prof. Dr. Ir. Umar Santoso, M.Sc which become one of the juries in the contest. “I wish, whoever will win the event can bring the good name of Indonesia in ASEAN level, and also introduce Indonesian halal food to the global level,” He said. (joh)
