Constantly making achievements is the identity of the University of Muhammadiyah Malang (UMM). Recently, UMM received an award due to its active contribution to engineering development. The accolade was earned in the opening forum of the Regional Conference of the Indonesian Engineers Association of East Java 2023 on May 5, 2023, in Surabaya. The award was given directly to the Rector of UMM, Dr. Fauzan, M.Pd., by the Indonesian Engineers Association of East Java Chairman,  Prof. Dr. Ir. HM. Bisri, MS.

The man known as Fauzan highly appreciates the accolade, which proves that the White Campus — the alias of UMM — is an excellent university, including in the engineering field. Despite that, he emphasizes that UMM will steadily contribute the best to scientific development.

"Hopefully, with this award, UMM can continue to advance and always contribute to the engineering world. This achievement also affirms that we are an educational institution that becomes a place to make processes and study for future engineers," said Fauzan.

Furthermore, he also says that UMM has made a lot of achievements in the engineering field. For example, a series of trophies that UMM students successfully earned in various competitions. However, it's not limited there; on the other hand, they also managed to make the campus proud internationally.

"Innovations are also constantly being made by students and lecturers. Those become one of the solutions amidst the many problems of society. So does the establishment of more than 54 Center of Excellence classes, which become our way to contribute to the country. Young people participating there will be equipped with skills in accordance with market needs so that they will be automatically practiced in the workplace and (they can) start their own business," said the Rector of UMM.

The Rector from Kediri also highlights that this award from the Indonesian Engineers Association can encourage UMM to participate and actively contribute to an actual program. Then, it's not thoroughly focused on theoretical aspects but also gives positive impacts, including supporting Golden Indonesia 2045.

Besides a university category, the Indonesian Engineers Association also nominated some types. One of them was given to some regional and municipal governments. These include the local governments of Jember, Malang City, Surabaya City, and others. (imh/zak/wil)
