Approximately 100 students from 40 countries will be gathering in University of Muhammadyah Malang, on next Monday-Wednesday (16-18/11). They are foreign students who are studying in many universities in Indonesia and become the 4th International Student Summit 2015. The annual event of Ministry of Research, Technology and Higher Education in UMM is expected to be different than before.
Vice Rector II of UMM, Fauzan, stated that the presence of the foreign students has to be marked as the hospitality between countries. They, however, will record their impression of Indonesia, UMM especially, and will tell their friends when they go back to their home country. That’s why, we have to welcome them so that they are impressed with our culture, especially UMM culture.
“We are used to give good service. For these foreign students, however, we have to give the unique service to impress them. Traditional cuisine, natural tourism place, and also special Indonesian games for examples,” suggested by Fauzan.
The Head of International Relation Office of UMM, Abdul Haris, stated that during their time in UMM the foreign students will be welcomed by Liaison Officer (LO) recruited from the UMM students. The foreign students of UMM will host traditional cuisines of Indonesia. “The UMM foreign students has been familiar with language and traditional cuisines of Indonesia. So we have them to show off their promotion skill to their foreign student friends,” Haris asserted.
The event is not only meant to establish the relationship among the students but also having them to play traditional games of Indonesia. Those games are balap karung, makan krupuk, and also balap bakiak.
“The main event is still the congrest but in order to make the friendship more intimate, we will give additional events. The closing of this event will be a trip to Bromo mountain,” said Soeparto, Rector assistant of relation division.
UMM is the first chosen private university to host this event. Previously, this event was held at Dirjen Dikti office in 2012, University of Padjajaran Bandung in 2013, and University of Gadjah Mada Yogyakarta in 2014. The theme of this year congrest is “Dignifying Indonesia through Bahasa Indonesia in the Globalization Era”.
There has been 40 confirmed participants. Germany, Iraq, Morocco, South Korea, Mexico, Afghanistan, Bangladesh, Burundi, Bulgaria, Cambodia, China, Egypt, Fiji, Gambia, India, Iran, Colombia, Laos, Madagascar, Malaysia, Myanmar, Namibia, Nepal, Nigeria, Pakistan, Palestine, Papua New Guinea, Rwanda, Serbia, Sierra Lione, Sudan, Tanzania, Thailand, Tunisia, Uganda, Uzbekistan, and Vietnam are among the participants.
