The imposition of excise duty has a double advantage. Limiting people's consumption can also be a source of state income. Nirwala Dwi Heryanto conveyed this as Director of Communication and Compliance Guidance for Customs Service Users at the Cakap Cukai seminar on Wednesday (29/6). The activity results from cooperation between the University of Muhammadiyah Malang (UMM) and the Directorate General of Customs and Excise.
Nirwala, his nickname, revealed that he loves to socialize with students. That's because the effect will be more comprehensive. Students will undoubtedly provide a better understanding of the environment around them.

According to him, the activity called Cakap Cukai has two meanings. The first cakap means the process of talking and chatting about Excise. Then when they understand excise duty, the students can be considered capable parties.
Regarding the duty, he explained that his task was not only to deal with imports and exports. But it also functions as an industrial assistant by assisting SMEs and IKM. Even with efforts to accelerate the flow of goods and community protection.
"The meaning of community protection is comprehensive. Not only dealing with drugs, but also pornography, export and import books that smell of radicalism and others," he said.
Nirwala also revealed several criteria for an item that could be subject to excise duty. For goods that must control for consumption, their circulation needs to be monitored, to their use which negatively impacts the environment or humans. In addition, it is also a state effort to ensure justice.
"This is alternative, not cumulative. But to become goods subject to excise duty, you must go a long way, even with careful implementation. For example, plastic has been subject to excise duty since 2016. However, the government sees the existing condition of the community, so it has not been imposed to the maximum," he said.

On the other hand, UMM Vice Chancellor III, Dr. Nur Subeki, M.T., assesses that this era requires us to understand and do something early. Including knowledge related to customs and Excise. How students can anticipate any changes that may occur in the future.
In addition, in facing a new era, students must also do several things. Starting with the ability to adapt and anticipate. Then move quickly and continue to accelerate. But that's not enough, and students also need a reliable partner.
"Take advantage of this good opportunity and momentum. Cakap Excise can also be used as your portfolio as proof that you understand the customs process. Hopefully, this event can add and improve insight and understanding of customs," he concluded. (apg/wil)
